Overview:

The Flughafenbetriebskompanie´s (FBK) primary duty was repair and service for all the aircraft of a specific unit. The FBK belonged to the various Gruppen of the heavier units, incl. Kampfgeschwader, Sturzkampfgeschwader, Zerstörergeschwader, and various reconnaissance and transport units.

Normally fully motorised, consisted of 150 men, and was divided into 4 platoons (züge) - 3 Betriebszüge and 1 Werkstattzug, and would normally follow the Gruppe around to the various bases.

Initially most Gruppen had 2 FBK's, but this was changed to one each, after 1.43.

1. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 1.5.39 in Kolberg. Served with I./KG1. When I./KG1 became III./KG40 in 3.41, the 1. FBK-KG1 remained with III./KG40, but there is not record of it ever changing designation. On 10.1.43 became independent as 102. Flughafenbetriebskompanie (Qu).

Reformed 10.1.43 in Germany from 5. FBK-KG4. Disbanded 5.44.

Served with I./KG1 (5.39 - 3.41), III./KG40 (3.41 - 1.43) and I./KG1 (1.43 - 5.44)

2. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 1.5.39 in Kolberg. Served with I./KG1. When I./KG1 became III./KG40 in 3.41, the 2. FBK-KG1 remained with III./KG40, but there is not record of it ever changing designation. On 10.1.43 became independent as 103. Flughafenbetriebskompanie (Qu).

Reformed 10.1.43 in Neuhausen from 4. FBK-KG1. Disbanded 5.44.

Served with I./KG1 (5.39 - 3.41), III./KG40 (3.41 - 1.43) and II./KG1 (1.43 - 5.44)

3. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 10.1.43 in Neuhausen from 5.FBK-KG1, and served with III./KG1. Disbanded 8.44(?).

Served with III./KG1 (1.43 - 8.44).

4. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 18.9.39 in Pinnow-Plathe from 1.FBK-KG152, and served with II./KG1. On 10.1.43 redesignated 2.FBK-KG1.

Reformed 10.1.43 in Schaulen from 10.FBK-KG1. Disbanded 5.44.

Served with II./KG1 (9.39 - 1.43) and IV./KG1 (1.43 - 5.44)

5. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 18.9.39 in Pinnow-Plathe from 2.FBK-KG152, and served with II./KG1. On 10.1.43 redesignated 3.FBK-KG1.

Served with II./KG1 (9.39 - 1.43).

7. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 12.39 in Burg, and served with III./KG1. Disbanded 3.42.

Served with III./KG1 (12.39 - 3.42). It is not known what FBK served with III./KG1 between 3.42 and 1.43.

10. Flughafenbetriebskompanie KG1

Formed 3.41 in Münster-Handorf. On 10.1.43 redesignated 4.FBK-KG1.

Served with IV./KG1 (3.41 - 1.43).
