Formed 26.8.39 in Frankfurt/Main from parts of I./Flak-Regiment 29 with 5 Batterien (1. - 3. schwere, 4. - 5. leichte). Until 7.42 known as Res.Flak-Abt. 291.
Reorganised as a schwere Abteilung in 1942:
4. and 5./s.291 was formed in 1943 (4. from Luftwaffen-Sperrfeuer-Batterie 319, 5. new).
2./s.291 was also known as RAD 3./257 from 1943.
