On 11.42 strengthened and was renamed Division General Göring with:
- Grenadier-Regiment 1 Hermann Göring (from the Schützen-Regiment)
- Grenadier-Regiment 2 Hermann Göring (new)
- Jäger-Regiment Hermann Göring, from 2.43
Several other units were forming in Mont-de-Marsan, including a Panzer-Regiment, when the division was rushed to Tunisia (initially only with Grenadier-Regiment 1 Hermann Göring).
Jäger-Regiment Hermann Göring and Grenadier-Regiment 2 Hermann Göring were later combined as Grenadier-Regiment 2 Hermann Göring.
The division was destroyed in Tunisia, but large parts were still forming in France, and these would be the basis for a new division.
