Territory covered:
- 4.2.38 - the same as Wehrkreis III (Mark Brandenburg, most of Pommern and the northern half of Provinz Sachsen)
- 1.4.38 - took over the territory of the former Luftgau-Kommando II
- 1.12.41 - took over the entire Luftgau-Kommando IV area
- 2.44 - the entire Luftgau-Kommando III area was moved westwards, to help improve the air defence of the capital. The areas of Ostmecklenburg, Prignitz and Altmark was taken over from Luftgau-Kommando XI, while Niederschlesien was transferred to Luftgau-Kommando VIII.

On 19.12.44 it had been planned that Flughafenbereichs-Kommando 5/III, 7/III and 11/VI, were to be transferred to Luftgau-Kommando XVI, and that 6/XI was to have been added from Luftgau-Kommando XI. This plan was cancelled 24.1.45. Instead the Befehlsstelle Dresden des Luftgau-Kommando III was formed on 14.2.45, and took control of Flughafenbereichs-Kommando 5/III, 7/III and 26/III.
